What is an immersive experience resort?

Truthfully, the Outpost X immersive resort is one of the first of it’s kind. Our family has enjoyed many immersive experiences and art installations. Like Meow Wolf, Factory Obscura, and other unique art exhibits. There are lots of unique places to stay out there in the world, and while we’ve stayed at many across the USA, this is the first of it’s kind that we’ve stayed at that truly invites you to immersive yourself in the story of where you’re at. It invites you to leave behind the regular world and dive into an experience that leaves no detail overlooked, from the option food and costumes, to the transportation, and the accommodations. An immersive resort is a short term rental that brings a story fully to life around you and invites you to be a part of it.

Where is Outpost X immersive resort?

Outpost X immersive resort is located near the small town of Beryl, Utah. It is a two and a half hour drive northeast of Las Vegas. You will change time zones when you cross into Utah and the drive takes you on the west side of St. George. It is exceedingly remote, with a ten mile drive down gravel roads to access the resort. There is little to no phone service, but wifi is available at the property. Be prepared to be driving along gravel roads for thirty minutes on your drive. Additionally, there are no restaurants in the vicinity so you’ll need to plan accordingly and bring your own food.

Preparing for the adventure.

One of the coolest things about this immersive resort is how your experience begins before you even arrive. The communication with the resort is fantastic and you’ll receive all the information you need to make your stay incredible. But that’s not all, you will also receive links to a special podcast. The podcast tells the backstory of Outpost X immersive resort and it’s a truly unique story telling experience. You’ll meet characters from this distant planet, hear their trials and triumphs and learn all about what this special place is meant to exemplify. It also gives you the lay of the land and what each structure represents.

When you arrive.

It’s a long drive down dusty roads, but you’ll know you’ve arrived when you see the large X sign by the road. A left turn and then you’ll drive under the gateway and flags that mark the entrance to Outpost X immersive resort. We immediately felt transported to a distant planet, the landscape reminiscent of Tatooine. As soon as we stepped out of the car, we felt like we were part of a movie set. The cave homes, lodge, and common area looked incredible. We also saw the speeders which we couldn’t wait to try out. Your instructions are sent to your email, so after we parked our car we went over to explore where we would be staying. A note: there is staff on site during the day time and someone on call at all times, but there is no formal check in area or lobby.

Where you’ll stay.

Outpost X immersive resort offers several types of accommodations. We stayed in two of the cave style homes, Cave 1 and Cave Lux 2. There is one more cave home, Cave 3 and multiple Zen Domes. The cave homes are sculpted to look like they’ve been carved out of rock. You’ll access the cave homes from a boardwalk that runs from the parking lot. All of the cave homes have two bedrooms, each with at least a queen size bed. They all have a kitchenette with microwave, sink, small fridge, and small stove. Each cave also has a bathroom with a large, walk in, rain head shower. Cave Lux 2 is the largest cave and best for families with a living room and full size fridge. The Zen Domes are bubble domes with one bed, kitchenette, and full bathroom. The Zen Domes are for couples only and offer panoramic views of the landscape and night sky!

Each cave is spectacular, but Cave Lux 2 is the best one for families since it has the most space.

The Outpost X spa.

Who knew you’d find a spa on this distant planet? When you stay at this immersive resort it includes access to the Outpost X spa. Personally, I loved how even each step in the spa experience is included in the podcast backstory. There is a “why” for each thing and it’s woven together beautifully. Enjoy a mud bath, followed by a rinse, a cold water immersion, a hot shower, a sauna, and a hot tub. You can go through the steps in the Outpost method or at your own pace. The spa has boardwalks, towels, and plenty of lounge chairs to enjoy the views. At night, the sky comes alive with endless stars and thanks to the red lights on the property. A tip: the hot tub has a waterfall feature and lights up at night. It’s excellent when the hot desert days turn into cool nights.

Please be respectful of the process and wash mud off properly before entering any of the other pools, sauna, or hot tub.

Other community spaces.

One of the things we love about resorts like this are the opportunities to meet other travelers and hear their stories. Outpost X immersive resort provides several great community spaces to enjoy.

The Kaan lounge serves as a meditation lounge, gathering space, and place to enjoy a movie. My daughter and I had such a great time creating our own sound bath experience with the singing bowls and hand pan drum. The lounge has incredible lighting effects and is especially great toward sunset, with a glass door view of the westward mountains.

In the stacked shipping containers, you’ll find a game room filled with video games, board games, card games, and more. Take the stairs up from the community fireplace to access the cantina. The cantina has everything you need to create your own special drink, including syrups and mix ins, but it is bring your own alcohol and bring your own cup.

The set of three, in ground, trampolines were easily my children’s favorite feature. It was especially fun during sunset as the sky darkened and we all felt like we were defying gravity on a foreign planet. Just be sure to be mindful of your noise level if there are other guests enjoying the spa.

Outpost X: Add on experiences.

The Outpost X immersive resort thinks of everything. There are some optional add ons that help to further immerse you in the experience. We opted for all three of them!

  • Drinking horns – these souvenir drinking horns are custom made for Outpost X and come with a leather carrying strap. The are so much fun and they also unlock secret drink mocktail drink recipes for the byob cantina! They are a great thing to get to use after your time at Outpost X to keep the memories alive.
  • Wardrobe rental – we added a costume rental which included 2 to 3 pieces of clothing or accessories per person. This was such a fun add on and my kids came up with the coolest characters based on the items they chose. My son embodied a Jedi and my daughter took on the persona of a bounty hunter. I went for a rebel princess vibe.
  • Culinary experience – since there are no restaurants around, Outpost X offers a culinary pass that includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner for two people. The food awaits you in your room upon arrival and there are instructions for cooking each meal included. They are easy to cook meals. What we loved: every item on the food menu tied into the story of the resort. It was so much fun and the food was delicious. Plus, most of it was gluten free (you can leave off the naan bread).

The coolest feature: the land speeders.

In all honesty, the land speeders are what first caught my attention at Outpost X immersive resort. I happened upon their Instagram page at the very beginning of their process and saw some plans for land speeders. As huge Star Wars fans, my kids and I were immediately enthralled and eagerly watched the progress of the resort. When we arrived at Outpost X, we could not wait to drive them around. These landspeeders are so well done! Every detail, including the garage and charging area, feels so authentic to being on a distant planet. The dry lake bed the resort sits on makes the perfect place to explore and you can drive the speeders all over the property! There is an audio tour you can do while you explore, or just take a tour of the grounds to see all of the special features.

A tip: check out a speeder just before sunset and cruise around while the sun sinks behind the mountains for the ultimate Outpost X experience!

What makes Outpost X immersive resort so special.

Outpost X immersive resort is unlike any place we’ve ever stayed before. We’ve stayed in some pretty wild places, including a Cold War era missile launch control center under ground. Outpost is without a doubt the coolest place we’ve ever stayed. What makes it so special is the incredible attention to detail and continuity of storyline. Each building on the property is there for a reason and it’s part of the story. The podcast you listen to before you arrive sets the stage and every detail from the moment you set foot on the property just adds to the magic. Outpost is so much more than just a place to stay. It’s a journey for the mind, body, and soul that will stay with us for a very long time.

Things to do near Outpost X.

Outpost X immersive resort is pretty far out there, and that’s what makes it an ideal place to get away. However, if you’re looking for things to do during the daytime or while you’re there, here are a few ideas.

  • Hike Kanarra Falls – about an hour drive away. This moderate hike goes partially through a slot canyon and feels like a mini Zion subway hike. You’ll need to reserve a permit and there are only 200 per day allowed. Reserve here. Zion Adventure Photog is a great resource for southern Utah adventures and has a guide to hiking Kanarra Falls.
  • Explore Cedar City – this cute Utah town is also about an hour drive away. There are lots of fun shops and restaurants to explore in the historic downtown. Frontier Homestead State Park is a great living history experience for kids and families.
  • Zion National Park – the western entrance to the park, near La Verkin, Utah is about an hour and a half drive. Note – the park is VERY and parking can be difficult. But, there are lots of beautiful areas to explore both inside and outside of the park.
  • Brian Head Peak – the ski resort town of Brian Head is an hour and a half drive and it’s a beautiful route. You can also drive up to 11,000 feet at Brian Head Peak and see a really neat CCC era structure that was restored in the mid 90’s.

Why visit Outpost X immersive resort?

The name of the resort is the reason you should visit. This fully immersive experience is great for kids, families, and adults of all ages. While we were there we had the honor of witnessing a Mandalorian themed photo session, followed by a Star Wars inspired proposal that night (she said yes!). We got to see other groups absolutely living their best lives in full cosplay, complete with a Dark Saber and light sabers. Everyone was smiling, there was no judgement, and no one felt embarrassed or silly. Outpost X invites you to dive in, leave the world behind, and embark on an adventure in a distant world that they’ve meticulously cultivated. Outpost X invites you to play, relax, restore, and just exist in this very special place. We cannot wait to go back again someday and we are excited to see how it continues to grow!
